How To Be Safe While Purchasing Goods From International Online Stores

Posted on February 23, 2016 by Guy Atkinson

When it comes to purchasing goods online, you always want to be safe. And you need to take even more precaution when you are purchasing goods from an international online store. Even though online stores have made big strides in safety over the past decade, there are still some relatively shady stores that you shouldn’t trust. You also need to be able to make sure that you know what you are agreeing to. With some international stores, you might have to pay additional fees on your credit card, such as international transaction fees or other types of taxes levied in the country where you are making your purchase.

The first thing that you should do when purchasing from an international store is check out the reviews. You want to see if people are happy with the purchase that they have made, or if they are upset with unspecified fees, failure to send a product, or a product that isn’t what was ordered. A simple Google search can help you to find the different reviews of the store that you are considering. Many international eCommerce stores use offshore payment processing from payment processors such as emerchantbroker.

The next thing that you want to do is look up any fees that you might have. You can look at your credit card’s fine print to see if you may face any additional international transaction fees, but you also need to read the fine print on the online store as well. Some online stores are subject to certain international regulations that might mandate that they have to charge additional fees for their products and services. You want to make sure that you are privy to all of these so that you are not caught off guard when you are hit with a fee.

Lastly, you need to know conversion rates. Many international stores price their products in their native currencies, not in US or Canadian dollars. As a result, you need to be able to know what the conversion rate will be and if you are willing to purchase the goods or services at that price.
