Posted on August 27, 2015 by Guy Atkinson

Tuscany is possibly one of the most famous regions in the country of Italy. As a matter of fact, when people think of Italy, they immediately imagine lyrical landscapes filled with vineyards and giant sunflowers as pictured in the movie, “Under the Tuscan Sun.” It is one of the most important places in the world, much regarded as the birthplace of the Renaissance and is home to many influential figures in history, science, and art. It is no wonder then that millions of people flock to see this beautiful place.

Tuscany

Aside from visiting its famous capital, Florence, and other important centers such as Pisa and Siena, one of the most rewarding things to do is to have a country holiday in Tuscany. Since a lot want to experience a real Italy, the countryside is the perfect place to walk mountain paths, explore rolling hills, see old villages and taste local wines and products. A visit to Chianti will allow you to see picturesque tiny towns and ancient farmhouses that, in general, still retain their old medieval charm. Here you will experience and never forget the wonderful taste of the famous Chianti wine as you join others to share a typical Tuscan meal where you can also savor other local produce such as extra-virgin olive oil, cheeses and salami.

Your Tuscan holiday in the countryside should also include a visit to the hometown of Leonardo da Vinci. This small medieval town called Vinci is perched on top of a mountain among the hills. There is a castle-turned-museum dedicated to Leonardo, housing a collection of machines of all kinds created according to his original designs. You can also drop by a house believed to be his birthplace located near the castle Thanks for stopping by. Outside of Florence is the Etruscan town of Fiesole situated on steep hills where you can have a spectacular view of the capital city. This town dates back 3,000 years ago and was subsequently conquered by the Romans who left signs of their rule in the form of temples and public buildings now preserved as an archaeological park. Go on to Volterra to experience how it feels to be in the past as you walk in a maze of narrow streets, tower-house and Renaissance palaces. Stop by the Museo Guarnacci to see Etruscan artefacts.

There are so many places to visit in Tuscany and each one is as beautiful as the other. It is fascinating to travel around this region and you will surely love every stop. As you sit back and relax while appreciating the many sights, sounds and tastes, look out beyond the rows and rows of grapes and olive trees under the Tuscan sun. You will, without doubt, fall in love forever.
